ADDISON – Authorities say firefighters rescued an Addison woman Friday evening after she fell through ice trying to rescue a dog.
According to Marine Patrol Sergeant Colin MacDonald, the incident happened on the Pleasant River in Addison around 7:40 p.m.
Sgt. MacDonald says fire crews from Addison and Epping were the first to arrive on scene.
Authorities say the woman was located about 200 feet from the shore hanging onto a kayak.
Sgt. MacDonald says the fire department personnel grabbed a hold of the woman and kayak and dragged them both onto a solid piece of ice.
She was then taken to a Machias hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
Authorities could not confirm the condition of the dog.
MacDonald says the firefighters on scene were well equipped to deal with the incident and if it wasn’t for their quick response, this incident would have been much worse.
