ORRINGTON – Two town managers have resigned in the past six months but a new one will be starting soon.
Joan Gibson was appointed town manager during a board meeting Monday night.
“I’m very excited,” she said. “There’s a good spirit here in the town of Orrington, regardless of what seems to have gone down in the past. The people seem very engaged. It’s clear to me that they very, very much love this town.”
Town Clerk Susan Carson has taken on many responsibilities that would belong to the town manager during the past several months.
“‘I’m really optimistic about this person,” Carson said of Gibson. “They’re going to bring in some really good strong qualities, communications skills.”
Selectman Charles Green expressed a similar sentiment and says he hopes Gibson’s appointment will help the town to move forward.
“We’ve had some difficulties and disagreements and I’m hoping this is the start of putting that behind us,” he said.
Gibson said she plans to focus on economic development, specifically mentioning the town’s waterfront property.
Her first day on the job is expected to be March 11.
