ORONO – International students shared the culture of their homelands Saturday evening as part of the University of Maine’s 2019 International Dance Festival.
The annual event started with a small crowd but now has more than 900 hundred people attending. The showcase features a variety of different traditional music, dance and costumes.
Organizers said the show has become one of the biggest and most anticipated events on campus and that any event that showcases the campus’ diversity is wonderful.
“We have over 400 international students at the University of Maine, another 30 or 40 scholars faculty from all over the world representing over 70 countries and so it’s just a great night for our students and community members to really showcase their talent and their culture,” said Sarah Joughin, senior associate director of the Office of International Programs at UMaine.
Saturday’s show featured more than 18 performances representing more than a dozen countries.
