Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on multi-unit building

OLD TOWN - Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor is one step closer to providing housing for more families.

In Old Town Friday, ground was broken on the group's first multi-unit building.

Members say the three unit condo will let them assist more families at the same time.

"Habitat for Humanity is the only organization in greater Bangor that is providing opportunity for home ownership to families in need of better housing, so in the short term it's a stable place to live," said Lynn Hempen, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor. "It's a decent, affordable place to live, but in the long term these families get the benefits of home ownership."

Officials say they hope to have the three unit condo finished in about a year.

They are still taking applications.
