BELFAST - Belfast Police say one person was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision Friday afternoon.

Authorities say it happened around 1:30 on Route 3 in Belfast, near the curling club.

Deputy Chief Gerry Lincoln with the Belfast Police Department says a car carrying two people was traveling west, when the driver lost control and veered into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Police say a passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other two involved were taken to Waldo County General Hospital for treatment.

No names have been released.

Deputy Chief Lincoln says weather appears to have played a factor in the crash.

Belfast Police, Fire and Ambulance, as well as Waldo County Sheriff's deputies, responded to the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
