Written by

BANGOR - The Bangor Fire Department announced on Wednesday the passing of former Chief Robert Burke.

The announcement, posted on the department's Facebook page, noted that Burke began his career at Bangor Fire in 1965.

Burke served as chief of the department from 1982 to 1990 and after retiring from Bangor, went on serve as fire chief in Orono and Old Town.

"Retired Chief (Frank) Dinsmore actually brought Chief Burke by and we were able to show him our new ladder truck out on the ramp and kind of gave him a little tribute a couple weeks ago," Assistant Chief Chandler Corriveau said.

Corriveau said the current chief has reached out to Burke's family and that the department is assisting them in any way they can.
