Swan's Island group wants faster internet

SWAN'S ISLAND - Some Swan's Island residents are fed up with the lack of internet speed and they are looking to do something about it.

The island's Broadband Committee members are working on upgrading the infrastructure of the island to help residents who use broadband computers get faster download speeds.

"So we're working with a budget of approximately $23,000 to try to gather the information that we need to pick a provider that will put together an affordable alternative for us and implement that alternative strategy," said Keith Harriton, a member of the committee.

The Broadband Committee was formed within the last decade after some Swan's Island residents noticed that the download speeds they were getting were really slow, close to four megabytes per second.
