BANGOR - A North Carolina man is behind bars charged with assaulting a 6-month-old boy from Orono.

Cyree Hansley, 24, is charged with Class A aggravated assault and Class C assault on a child under the age of 6.

According to the affidavit, the 6-month-old boy suffered a skull fracture, had a stroke and bone fractures.

Judge John Lucy set his bail at $25,000.

“I'd ask the court to find probable cause. It's clear from the affidavit how serious this case is,” said Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Russell. “This child almost died.”

The boy's mother said the baby was injured on Jan. 10 in Orono and was in the hospital for 20 days, 11 in the intensive care unit.

She was granted a two-year protection order against Hansley on Thursday. He was arrested shortly after the protection order hearing. Hansley told investigators that the baby fell in the bathroom.

Hansley's mother and aunt were in the courtroom and afterward said there are two sides to every story.
