Meth lab disclosure bill

Written by

AUGUSTA - A new bill submitted to the Maine legislature would require that buyers be informed when purchasing a house that has been involved in a meth lab operation.

The bill's sponsor, Rep. Anne-Marie Mastraccio, D-Sanford, said she was surprised to learn there wasn't a law already in place requiring that kind of disclosure.

"We know that all of the elements that are used in the manufacture of meth are dangerous, so it would stand to reason that there might be some remaining contaminants that could then be harmful to young children in particular," she said.

A hearing on the bill will be held next Tuesday.
