The "Maine necklace" has been getting attention since Maine Gov. Janet Mills began wearing one. A search through pictures and videos of Mills turns up the small, shiny piece of "home" with every single outfit.
Fore River Gallery, where Mills bought the state-shaped pendant, is loving the free advertising.
"Of course, I mean, it's a kick because you can't find a picture of her now without it on," said jeweler Elizabeth Prior.
Prior said Mills stepped into Fore River Gallery after the necklace caught her eye in the window more than a year and a half ago.
Mills said she has been wearing it ever since.
"I saw this in the window of a store in Portland and I said, 'Oh, I like that,' and I went in and asked how much is it and spent a little money and bought it and thought maybe this will be my lucky talisman," Mills said.
Prior said that when word got out that the necklace came from her shop, dozens of customers immediately started coming in.
Mills said she will be wearing the necklace every day.
"I'm afraid not to wear it now," she said with a laugh.
