Man dies in Old Town car crash Featured

OLD TOWN - A man has died after a single car crash in Old Town Thursday night and police believe speed was a factor.

Crews were called to College Avenue around 8:40 p.m. for a car that went off the road.

Officials said the middle-aged man died at the scene and he was riding alone.

Police don't know what exactly caused him to go off the dirt road but say speed was part of it.

"It appears that they hit a tree, they went off the road and hit a tree," an officer said. "The sheriff's office has a mapper, we have a reconstructionist and they're going to reconstruct the accident as good as they can."

A portion of College Avenue was closed for part of Thursday night while crews continued to investigate.

The man's name is not being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
