AUGUSTA – Every year, the State House hosts an event called Maine Nonprofit Day.
It’s to introduce lawmakers to the variety of nonprofits that serve every county in the state.
Thursday, legislators learned about the vital contributions Maine’s diverse nonprofits make to the state economy and quality of life.
The executive director for the Maine Association of Nonprofits says there are 98,000 people who are in the Maine workforce that are specifically working for non profits.
“It’s very important for people to understand that nonprofits need to be partners with both business and government to make sure our communities are thriving and vibrant and creating prosperity for everyone,” said Jennifer Hutchins, executive director of the Maine Association of Nonprofits.
