The Katahdin Trust Company is using its resources to assist furloughed government employees with short-term financing or short-term notes to help them pay some of their bills.
A bank spokesperson says they understand the financial stresses of the ongoing shutdown and they're relieving the stress by waiving certain fees and offering payment deferment on bills and loans.
"We're here to assist them through this time, whether that's another week or weeks," said Danelle Weston, regional vice president of Katahdin Trust Company. "We're gonna look to create ways to get them through this and have them be helped again, whether it's with loan options or helping with fees."
Katahdin Trust customers are strongly encouraged to reach out to the bank if they are need of assistance.
