BANGOR – The American Red Cross is on the lookout for heroes.
The holidays are over and cold & flu season is in full swing, taking a toll on the blood supply.
Since blood is a perishable product that can only be supplied by donors, any disruption to blood donations could delay lifesaving medical treatments.
The American Red Cross is issuing an emergency call for donors to roll up their sleeves to help prevent a prolonged blood shortage.
Sherri Phinney at the American Red Cross says being a hero comes in many forms.
“Go on to RedCrossBlood.org, find that opportunity for you to be the hero, to be in the trenches, to be piling sandbags, to be pulling someone out of the water,” said Phinney. “You truly are that incredibly special person that makes it happen.”
To help answer the call and become a hero, visit RedCrossBlood.org, participate in an area blood drive or go to the donor center at 900B Hammond Street in Bangor.
