HAMPDEN – Two local high school rivals are working together to beat cancer.
The Hampden Academy Broncos and the Brewer Witches are having a friendly competition to raise money for the American Cancer Society with their first ever Links of Hope Cheer Challenge.
Both squads are selling $1 paper links to create a chain. The squad with the longest one wins.
“We just thought it would be a good opportunity to get our name out there and help raise some money for a good cause,” Hampden Academy senior Jared Hoxie said.
High school senior Cecelia Ford agreed.
“It’s good to know everything is going toward the same cause. We can still have that competition but know somebody is going to benefit from it in the end,” she said.
The teams are collecting donations until Jan. 17. To donate to the challege, visit Penobscot County’s Relay for Life page.
