ALTON - State police are investigating the death of a man at a home in Alton late Saturday night.

Officials responded to a 911 call on Bennoch Road just after 11 PM.

They said the caller reported there was a physical altercation at the home.

Upon arrival officials said they found 51-year-old Joseph Webber, a transient, in need of medical attention.

They said when EMS arrived they began giving aid, but Webber died before being transported to the hospital.

Officials said there were three other adults at the home when troopers arrived, State Police have interviewed them and no charges have been filed at this time.

An autopsy began Sunday at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta. The autopsy results are pending additional testing.

Members of the Major Crime Unit and Evidence Response Team have been at the residence all day Sunday and are expected to finish their work later on.
