January is Blood Donor Month

Written by

STATEWIDE - As we ring in the new year, we are reminded of the importance of donating blood.

The American Red Cross celebrates January as national blood donor month and recognizes the lifesaving contribution of blood and platelet donors.

"We are actually spending a lot of time in January [on] introspection and we're reflective because of the passing into the new year, so it is a time for us to look ahead at how we want to reach out to others, how do we want to participate in our humanitarianism?" says Sherri Phinney, DRD account manager at the Red Cross Donation Center in Bangor.

Donors can give blood every 56 days and each visit only lasts an hour.

Those interested in donating can go online to redcrossblood.org  or call 1 (800) RED-CROSS to set an appointment.
