MILLINOCKET – One year ago on Wednesday, police say three people broke into the home of a Millinocket businessman and shot him and his estranged wife, and are now charged with his murder.
Investigators say Tony Locklear of East Millinocket, his daughter Alexis Locklear, and her boyfriend Christopher Murray, both of North Carolina, went to the home of Wayne Lapierre to buy marijuana but ended up robbing him at gunpoint before shooting him.
His wife was also shot twice in the head, but survived.
Officers found Wayne Lapierre in the basement, with his hands in handcuffs behind his back and apparent gunshot wounds to his head.
Both he and his wife were taken to an area hospital and he died several days later at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
All three suspects fled the state and were later arrested and returned to Maine. Alexis Locklear and Murray are at Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and Tony Locklear is borded out at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
All three are facing murder and robbery charges.
