Maine Libertarians now "unenrolled" after party loses status

Written by

AUGUSTA - The Libertarian Party no longer exists in the state of Maine.

That's according to the Secretary of State, who says the party lost its status after a low level of Libertarian voters turned out for the November election.

Maine law requires a party have at least 10,000 registered voters cast ballots in the general election.

Officials say only a little more than 6,000 were enrolled as Libertarians.

If you were enrolled as a Libertarian, you are now "un-enrolled."

The Secretary of State says the Libertarian Party has filed a declaration to form the party once again, and must collect at least 5,000 enrollees by January of 2020.
