"We are so pumped to have early snow." Amy Lane, the President of Friends of Squaw Mountain said. "If it's going to be cold in Maine, we might as well have the beautiful snow to go with it. It just encourages families and people to go outside and enjoy their backyard. We are blessed."
The Big Squaw Mountain Ski Resort has already had 500 skiers this year, but they expect a lot more just around the corner.
"We are definitely a family destination." Lane said. "We cater around the school vacation calendar. We're open every holiday, every vacation day, all the weekends, so our busiest time is definitely Christmas vacation."
The volunteers at the big squaw mountain resort are just as excited.
"My favorite part about the mountain is getting out in the winter time, going fast, and teaching people how to get outside and go skiing," one of them told us.
More seasoned skiers are already enjoying the slopes, but newcomers are welcome here.
"If you've never skied, our mountain is the place" Lane explained "We do not have high pressured lift lines. Our trails are spacious, there's enough room for everyone."
The Big Squaw Mountain Ski resort is celebrating it's 55th anniversary this month.
While it was closed for a period, it's back to stay and better than ever.
"My favorite part of squaw mountain is working with the kids with skiing and snowboarding lessons," a volunteer told us. "It makes me as happy as I was when I was a kid."
