BANGOR - Two people have been arrested after eluding police and leading them on a chase Friday afternoon.

Police said 44-year-old Joseph Medeiros of Orneville was arrested and charged with eluding an officer, violation of conditions of release and refusal to submit to arrest.

27-year-old Kayla Heasely, also of Orneville, was arrested and charged with violation of condition of release, refusal to submit arrest, and for an outstanding warrant.

The Bangor police department said they received a call around 11 AM Friday morning about the couple engaging in illegal drug activity in the parking lot of a local retail center.

They said Medeiros and Heasely had left the scene in a truck they stole a day prior before officers got there.

Police said they located the two 15 minutes later on Broadway, but they refused to cooperate and sped off.

Moments later police said the two fled on foot then split up and cut through the woods and backyards headed towards the Griffin road.

Police said they later found the two and they were taken into custody.
