NEWPORT - Officials have released the name of the man arrested last night after a shooting in Newport.

Brian Duplisea has been arrested and charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon after shooting a man who remains in the hospital.

Police responded to the Bear's One Stop convenience store around 6:00 PM Wednesday evening for shots fired.

The Newport police department said a fight broke out between the two men who knew each other, and that's when Duplisea pulled a gun, shooting the other man twice in the stomach and once in the leg.

"It's an ongoing investigation," said Chief Macdaid. "The public is not in any danger at all."

No one else was hurt.

Police have not released the name of the man shot, but they believe he has serious but nonlife-threatening injuries.
