Small Maine school district's computer system hacked

EASTBROOK - While data breaches are known to occur at banks and large corporations, last week a small Downeast school district's computer system was hacked.

The superintendent of schools for AOS 77 sent a letter to current and former employees of the district warning them that their personal information may have been put at risk.

Among the information in jeopardy were direct deposit data as well as Social Security numbers and birth dates.

The superintendent urged those former and current staff members to keep an eye on their financial records for any unusual activity.
