Despite looming deadline, Affordable Care Act enrollments down

Written by

STATEWIDE - Though there are fewer than two weeks left to get insurance on the Affordable Care Act marketplace, reports indicate enrollment in Maine is down significantly compared to this time last year.

Open enrollment ends on Dec. 15. Maine's insurance superintendent says that is cause for concern.

"If you wait until after December 15th, then you have to fall under criteria for special enrollment and that means you could go a whole year without health insurance," Maine Insurance Superintendent Eric Cioppa said.

Cioppa said some of the rates for insurance for 2019 have decreased and Mainers will have more options available to them. Anyone who needs help getting started or who has insurance questions can call the Maine Bureau of Insurance's Consumer Health Care Division at 1-880-300-5000.
