Literacy volunteers seeking books for those in need

Written by

BANGOR - This time of year, many people are donating to charities.

And for the past 9 years, Books-a-Million in Bangor and its' customers have donated thousands of children's books to Literacy Volunteers of Bangor.

The books are given to adults who are learning to read. "Not only [to] our adults who are part of our programming, we get them into their homes for their children," LVA of Bangor Executive Director Mary Marin Lyon said. "But we also give them out at hospitals and a number of places. Housing, housing authorities where people may not have access to a library easily or their own books. So we make sure children throughout our region get their own books for Christmas," she said.

Books-a-Million is encouraging its' customers to purchase a children's book and the store's staff will make sure it gets to a child in Greater Bangor.
