Kayla Whittemore, 27, is facing two Class B felony drug trafficking charges.
Hampden police and Penobscot County sheriff's deputies arrested Whittemore on Saturday after a monthslong investigation into an overdose death in June.
Authorities say they reviewed the overdose victim's cell phone and found texts between the victim and Whittemore setting up an alleged sale.
In a Bangor courtroom on Tuesday, a defense attorney noted that Whittemore struggles with substance abuse herself and has been in rehab for five months.
A judge set bail at $1,000 and also ordered Whittemore not use or possess alcohol or drugs.
She is due back in court on Jan. 8.
