Gubernatorial candidate Janet Mills was out shaking hands and greeting voters as they went to cast their ballots.
Mills hopes to be the person to take over the governor's office following Paul LePage.
Her republican challenger Shawn Moody had stopped by Somic America in Brewer on Monday.
Mills said she was thrilled to see everyone at the Cross Insurance Center.
"Today it's a great turnout, and that's good for democracy," Mills said. "I'm proud to be here at the polling place all across Maine."
Bruce Poliquin also made an appearance at the Cross Insurance Center Tuesday.
Poliquin is seeking re-election as congressman in Maine's second congressional district.
He's running against democrat Jared Golden and independents Will Hoar and Tiffany Bond.
Poliquin was very enthusiastic at the polls.
"We've got a great response today, folks want this economy to keep going in the right direction with more jobs, low unemployment, folks having bigger paychecks, keep it going," said Poliquin.
The polls close Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
