Levant man charged with strangling wife

Written by

BANGOR - A Levant man with a long criminal history was arrested early Friday morning and spent the weekend in jail after police say he strangled his wife to the point where she couldn't breath.

Damian Ouellette, 25, was charged with aggravated domestic violence assault after he attacked his wife when she confronted him about another woman, the police reports state. He also broke a door in the residence during the fight.

“She reported the defendant grabbed her by the neck and he pinned her to the wall and she couldn't breathe,” Brendan Trainor, a Penobscot County assistant district attorney, told the judge.

Judge John Lucy set bail at $25,000 and barred Ouellette from having contract with his wife, one of her four children and her mother, who witnessed the attack, according to the court affidavit.

Ouellette, who was convicted of robbery in 2013, also was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm after a 9 mm handgun was found at the residence.
