Maine voters have until Nov. 1 to request a ballot, which can be done online or by calling their city or town clerk.
Bangor officials say they are right on track for the gubernatorial election.
"We've done about 2,300 and the applications are coming in fast and furious," City Clerk Lisa Goodwin said. "We can't seem to catch up to them each day. It is picking up and it's what we expected."
For those unable to request an absentee ballot by the deadline because of an unexpected circumstance, there is a process for applying for a special exception.
All absentee ballots must be received by the city or town clerk by 8 p.m. on Election Day.
