BANGOR - The Bangor Daily News presented an Act Out women's adventure expo at Husson University on Sunday.

The event is inspired by women and is for anyone who wants to get into outdoor activities.

The expo featured a variety of activities for women throughout the day, including self-defense and demonstrations of how to load kayaks onto cars.

The Maine Association for Search and Rescue also attended and offered different seminars, such as Lost But Found Safe, which teaches children what to do if they are lost.

"I've always been an outdoors person and sometimes it's hard to learn new things and not know where to go to get those resources, and you don't always want to reach out on Facebook," said Kimberly Merrifield, community relations and events coordinator. "It's nice to have everything in one place.:

Prizes and vendors also were part of the event.

Beer was provided by Baxter's Outdoors and all proceeds went to the Bangor Land Trust.

Organizers said they have had some great feedback and hope to hold the expo again next year.
