A 43-year-old man was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center after he suffered a gunshot wound while in a home on the Medway Road.
The call came in around 6:30 a.m. Sunday and local police believe the man's injuries are serious but not life-threatening.
The man was shot in the leg after he confronted another man at the residence about a woman, said a friend who asked not to be identified. The first man was armed with a gun, the two men struggled for the weapon and the gun went off, the friend said.
Few other details have been released about the incident, including the names of the people involved.
Locals had this to say...
“It's too bad to see our town involved in a shooting like that, stuff like that. It's sad to see,” said a local man, filling his gas tank at the local gas station. “With the drug activity and stuff around here, it's just getting worse and worse every day.”
“I know a lot but I don't want to say anything,” added another man.
“I heard about it, but I don't know all the details on it,” said another local man. “Either way, you just gotta pray for everybody because the lord knows we all need it.”
Nobody was home Monday morning at the house where the shooting took place, which is near the Melunkis town-line.
Most of the neighbors WVII spoke to were unaware that a shooting was reported nearby.
The East Millinocket Police Department is the lead department on the case and is being assisted by the Maine State Police Major Crime Unit North, who sent their crime lab to the scene on Sunday to collect evidence.
