DEXTER - The state fire marshal's office is investigating the cause of a fire in Dexter.

Crews were called to 9 Dustin Street around 8:45 p.m. Sunday night for a report of a building fire.

Officials said three people and a family pet made it out safely. No injuries were reported.

When firefighters arrived, they found fire in the back of the building.

"Fire [was] climbing up the exterior walls. Fire got into the eves into the roof. So we called in a second alarm which brings in three other departments to back us up," Dexter Fire Chief Matt Connor said.

Chief Connor said manpower was not an issue and that several departments were on scene helping to fight the fire.

He said the American Red Cross is helping the families affected.
