MADISON - A Skowhegan man faces charges after fleeing the scene of an accident leaving one woman in serious condition.

The Somerset County Sheriffs Office said 36-year-old Leslie Ridley Junior was driving on Thurston Hill Road in Madison just after 4 PM on Saturday.

They said 35-year-old Michael Whitman was trapped inside the car and unconscious. She was taken to the hospital with head trauma and possibly life-threatening injuries.

Police said when Ridley fled the scene a state trooper with help of a K-9 located him as he tried to hitch a ride along Thurston Hill Road.

Officials said Ridley appeared to be seriously injured and was taken to the hospital.

Police said he was charged with operating under the influence and operating after habitual offender status.

The crash remains under investigation and police said speed and alcohol are both considered factors in the crash.
