STATEWIDE – It may be hard to believe but Mainers soon will need to heat their homes and this year, that might put a bigger dent in their wallets.
The Governor’s Energy Office’s weekly survey found the price of No. 2 heating oil statewide at $2.77 cents a gallon.
That’s seven cents higher than a month ago and up 60 cents from this time last year.
“Even with the wood stove, it doesn’t burn all night. So we have to use oil to keep the pipes from freezing during the night. It’s still steep,” Portland resident Susan Henderson said.
The prices of kerosene and propane are up, too.
Kerosene is up 53 cents from a year ago and up 30 cents from a month ago.
