First ever Paddle the Cure set for Saturday

Written by

BREWER - For the first time ever paddlers will be taking to their canoes and kayaks to raise money for the Eastern Maine Medical Center Champion the Cure challenge.

Participants can either take a mile and a half loop down the Penobscot River to the Interstate 395 bridge and back or a longer route up to the north Brewer boat launch on Route 9.

Jennifer Lloyd, philanthropy officer or the EMMC Foundation, said that money raised from registrations is going to EMMC Cancer Care, which is the only collaborative with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Maine.

"So it's a great thing that you can do to make a direct impact on those you know who have been affected by cancer and who may hear that in the future," she said.

Registration will be open until 1 p.m. on Saturday. The race kicks off at 2 p.m. and will be followed by a post-paddle celebration at Mason's Brewing Co. in Brewer.
