EMBDEN – Two Embden men are now facing charges after an incident involving the shooting of a cow.
Somerset County sheriff’s deputies said that on Sept. 5, they were called to investigate reports of a cow that had allegedly wandered onto a nearby property and was shot to death.
As a result, officials have charged both the cow’s owner and the man who is accused of killing the animal.
Jaime Danforth, 40, who owned the cow, Is charged with animal trespass. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Nov. 14.
The man accused of killing the cow, 24-year-old Mason Sparrow, is charged with cruelty to animals. He is due in court on Nov. 7.
Authorities noted that while owners are responsible for their domestic animals, it is against the law to kill a domestic animal without the owner’s consent.
