WINTERPORT – Two people were left homeless after a fire ripped through their home in Winterport.
Fire crews were called to their Stream Road home shortly before noon.
Officials said the couple was home when the fire broke out but they were able to get out of the house safely.
“The fire was through the roof when the first units arrived,” Monroe Fire Chief Ken Clements said.
“We had to stand back a little bit because it was near the electrical entrance and we had a little of arcs and sparks,” he said.
Part of the house collapsed while firefighters were trying to put out the flames.
Officials said that the American Red Cross is helping the couple who lived there.
Investigators with the state fire marshal’s office have been called in to see if they can determine what started the fire.
