WASHINGTON, D.C. - Senator Angus King on Wednesday decided he will vote "no" on President Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, the Independent senator says he will oppose Judge Brett Kavanaugh, after listening to the opinions of thousands of Mainers, studying documents and attending the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.

Senator King lists the issues before the Supreme Court, such as reproductive rights and presidential power, as well as what he calls a lack of transparency concerning Kavanaugh's record as reasons why he opposes the conservative judge.

Senator King went on to say, "there is no second chance on this, and given the stakes as well as what we do know of his record, I have no choice but to vote no. "

The vote is scheduled to take place Thursday.
