AUGUSTA — The Maine Center for Disease Control said Sunday that 159 new cases of COVID-19, and two more deaths have been reported across the state.
The additional cases bring the total since mid-March of last year to at least 45,794, according to state health officials.
The number of deaths as a result of COVID-19 increased to 706. The individuals were a man and woman from Cumberland County and York County. One was in their 70s, and the other was over 80 years old.
The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics also indicate 12,840 people have completed isolations after having contracted the virus, while a total of 1,570 people have required hospitalization to treat the virus.
As of Sunday, 67 people were hospitalized for COVID-19, 16 of them being treated in intensive care units, while 8 people were on ventilators.
Also as of Sunday, 418,266 COVID-19 vaccines had been administered around the state. Of those, 268,563 were first doses, and 149,703 were final doses, the Maine CDC said.
