Third annual Maine Red Hot Dog Festival brings a crowd to downtown Dexter Featured

DEXTER - Maine lobster may be the state's most famous food attraction, but the red snapper hot dog also deserves a spot in Maine's food hall of fame.

The third annual Maine Red Hot Dog Festival was full of tasty bites and other fun activities this Saturday. Visitors from near and far gathered in downtown Dexter for what's becoming one of Maine's most fun summer events.

"We've tried other festivals before, but this subject for some reason seems to bring the people in." said festival coordinator Diane Parola.

About 60 vendors were present for the event. Live music, a 5K "Bun Run" and a hot dog eating contest were just a few of the many attractions at the festival.

"The red hot dog district is where the stars of the show are, the red hot dogs," said Parola.

W.A. Bean & Sons provided the hot dogs all day long.

"It's a Maine thing now and it's becoming a right of the summer passage if you will," said W.A. Bean & Sons Director of Sales Sean Smith.

The festival seems to get bigger every single year, and will be back again next summer.
