Game officials have increased the number of permits that will be issued this year because the deer population is thriving in many areas of the state.
They are considering increasing the number by more than 30 percent to more than 84,000 permits.
However, the final decision will be left up to the advisory council, which will meet on Aug. 23.
The actual drawing for permits will take place on Sept. 7.
Officials said the any deer permits helps them manage the deer population.
Last year, hunters harvested more than 27,000 deer, which was the highest total in 10 years.
