Bar Harbor summer camp turning kids into circus performers

Written by

BAR HARBOR -  Kids from all over Maine are learning how to perform in a circus.

The Sellam Circus School is at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor with a large red and white circus tent filled with aspiring circus acts.

"We're offering a summer circus arts camp in a real Big Top tent. Kids come and learn everything under the sun circus. From juggling to wire waling to aerial silks, trapeze, aerial lyra, tumbling, lots of tumbling and acrobatics, mini tramp, you name it, we do it," circus school official Amity Stoddard said.

The child circus performers put on a show for their parents each Friday and will have a public performance on Saturday, when the kids and other friends from the circus world present the Circus & Cinema Show during which the animated Disney classic Dumbo will be shown at 8 p.m.

There are one more week of camp from Aug. 13 through 17 and plenty of room to sign up. Parents can sign their children up for the camp by visiting thesellamcircus.com/register.
