New city park gets approved by Bangor Planning Board

BANGOR - The Bangor Planning Board approved plans for a new park in the Capehart neighborhood of the city.

The play park, in the area of Davis Road, was passed unanimously at Tuesday's Bangor Planning Board meeting.

Plans for the park include a playground, basketball court, and a splash pad for kids to cool off on hot, summer days.

Representatives with Bangor Housing said the $500,000 cost will be paid for with federal money. They said it will benefit an area that doesn't already have a park nearby.

"A lot of our residents have barriers, financial, transportation, so it's very difficult for them to utilize parks and water areas in Bangor," said Renee Butler, the services manager for Bangor Housing. "So bringing this to the community is going to make things much better for them."

The idea was brought up once before, but wasn't passed the previous time by the Bangor Planning Board.

Now that it's been approved, Bangor Housing said they're going to move forward with it right away.
