Dixmont man accused in standoff denied bail amendment

Written by

BANGOR - A Penobscot County judge on Tuesday denied a bail amendment for the man accused of creating a lengthy standoff with police in Dixmont.

Michael Grendell, 61, has been in the hospital since he was shot by state police following a nearly 20-hour standoff at the end of June.

On Tuesday, Grendell's defense attorney asked a judge to change his bail conditions so that when he leaves the medical facility he could stay with a family member.

After a hearing, the judge denied the motion, keeping Grendell's current bail conditions in place.

Grendell faces a number of charges, including a charge of attempted murder stemming from allegations he fired numerous shots at a neighbor.

Grendell is due back in court on Sept. 10.
