"Tip A Cop" event raises money for Special Olympics

ELLSWORTH - Ellsworth police officers were helping serve up some food tonight at Pat's Pizza in Ellsworth, all for a good cause.

The sixth annual Tip A Cop event raised funds for the Special Olympics in Maine.

Members of the Ellsworth Police Department and their family members took over as staff of Pat's Pizza, taking orders and running meals.

Money raised is from tips. In addition, Pat's Pizza donates a dollar for every pizza sold to the Special Olympics.

Chief Glenn Moshier said not only is it for a great cause, but it's a fun night for the officers too. He said the Pat's Pizza staff has to help them out a little.

"For Pat's [staff] that are here to help us are great, and they struggle through with us to teach us how," said Chief Moshier, "what it is that we have to put into the machine to get the orders straight."

He said their fundraising goal is simply to beat what they made last year.
