Court denies appeal by woman convicted of manslaughter in infant son's death

BELFAST - Maine's highest court has denied an appeal from a woman convicted of killing her infant son.

32-year-old Miranda Hopkins of Troy was convicted of manslaughter in December for the death of her 7-week-old son in January of 2016.

In her appeal, Hopkins argued there was insufficient evidence and that the court made a mistake in denying her motion to suppress statements she made in interviews with police.

But the Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled Tuesday to uphold the jury's conviction.

Hopkins was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the crime.
