Brewer Boy Scout Troop 1 gets new home

Written by

BREWER - When a Brewer church was recently put up for sale, the local Boy Scout troop that has met at the church for more than one hundred years started looking for a new home.

Brewer Boy Scout Troop 1, a club that predates Boy Scouts of America by four months, has already moved to its new home at the Penobscot County Conservation Association.

"We're excited about it because that organization has helped us at Camp Roosevelt for years, for our shooting sports programs," said Charles Major, district director for the Katahdin Area Boy Scouts. "And Boy Scouts and conservation and nature go hand in hand."

The Brewer troop was chartered on Oct. 25, 1909. The Scouts are already meeting at the conservation club's headquarters, located on North Main Street.
