BANGOR - The search is officially over for a man who vanished after slipping beneath some ice in Bangor.

Authorities have confirmed it was the body of 22-year-old Peter Manuel that was found last month in the Penobscot River.

Manuel had been missing since March when Bangor police were called to a fight outside a downtown nightclub.

They attempted to talk with Manuel about his involvement but Manuel immediately ran off and attempted to flee across the Kenduskeag Stream.

Rescuers were in the process of trying to help Manuel back to safety but he refused and jumped back into the stream, where he slipped beneath some ice and vanished.

The state medical examiner had to wait for DNA test results to confirm Manuel's identity.
