SOMERSET COUNTY - Two people from Somerset County have been arrested on drug charges after police say they were involved in an extensive opioid-trafficking operation.

On Thursday night, 38-year-old Nicholas Culver of Hartland was arrested and charged with possession of fentanyl and aggravated trafficking.

During searches of Culver's car and residence, authorities found a number of handguns, 30 grams of fentanyl and more than $19,000 total in cash.

Culver is being held at the Somerset County Jail on $100,000 bail.

Drug agents and sheriff's deputies continued their investigation into the operation Monday morning by executing a search warrant at the home of 24-year-old Amanda Cowette at Stoney Park in Canaan.

Police found more than $7,000 cash, 9.5 Xanax pills, a loaded pistol, two bullet proof vests and 100 grams of fentanyl with a street value of $15,000.

Cowette now faces a number of charges, including aggravated trafficking and drug possession. She is being held at the Somerset County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Both are scheduled back in court on October 10.
