BANGOR - A man from northern Maine will spend nearly three years in prison for illegally possessing firearms.

39-year-old John Martin of Houlton was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Bangor.

Court records show Martin purchased three pistols and two rifles from a Maine business in 2016.

During a search in 2017, officers seized one of the rifles.

A domestic violence assault conviction from 2016 barred Martin from being able to legally own a gun.

Martin pleaded guilty to the charge back in February.
